Web 2.0 technologies help library professionals share tech knowledge

Library Technology NOW, a site where school and public library professionals can get information about the latest technology innovations and issues affecting libraries in the digital age, has launched a new social-networking tool for users. “Library Technology NOW 2.0” aims to bring library professionals together to discuss technology and share news, opinions, and advice. Tools included in the new site–which is based on Web 2.0 technology–include a wish list where users can share their library technology wishes with each other, a question-and-answer section run by library peers, and a “review it” section, which is a less-structured approach to traditional library technology reviews. Examples of current discussion topics include library software, blogging software, cataloging software, and wireless library networks. In the question-and-answer section, questions address topics such as thin clients for public-access computers and security software for public computers.
