What is Soundslides?

If you want to make a photo slideshow with sound and put it online, and you know how to shoot photos and you have some idea how to gather audio and produce an MP3 file. But you don’t own Flash, let alone know how to use it.

Soudslides is a neat little multimedia-authoring program created by freelance interactive producer, Joe Weiss. The program allows you to easily create a Flash based audio-slideshow without ever needing to open (or own) Flash. You simply point the program to a folder of images, select an audio track, and Soundslides takes over.

Soundslides
is a production tool for still image and audio web presentations.

The top advantages of using Soundslides to create a photo slideshow with audio:

  • You do not need to own Flash or even know anything about Flash.
  • The file you produce with Soundslides is an SWF file, which runs in the Flash player. More than 90 percent of all Web users already have (and use) the Flash player. See for yourself. Flash player version 7 and higher will run a Soundslides show.
  • Soundslides takes less than 5 minutes to learn. This is not an exaggeration. I have asked a lot of photojournalists how long it took them, and they all say this.
  • Soundslides allows you to produce an audio-driven slideshow of any length with any number of photos (your choice).
  • The functionality (such as pause, play, and a slider control) are all built in. You don’t have to do anything special to get them working properly.
